P l e a s e H e l p ! !
In today's world of wildlife awareness, much has been done to protect natural habitats and our wildlife. Even so, there is much left to be done. It takes only a small thought and a small action to accomplish great things.
The duck photographs appearing on this page were taken at a city park in Garden Grove, California. Shortly after, many ducks became ill and most lost their lives to botulism
poisoning the water. Many attempts were made to cause a clean-up of this park. Sadly, it was not in time.

We, at tale-feathers.com experience countless instances everyday of simple things we can all do to help. We may not realize that a simple action can cause a devasting effect to a healthy, happy bird or animal. Please help ease the peril that our wildlife faces every day.
Take a Step Forward
. . . . .
- Pick-up those fish hooks and fishing line! Many parks and recreational areas offer places to fish. While people thoroughly enjoy these ponds and lakes...so do the birds! Sadly, many birds are injured, maimed, and even killed by someone's carelessness and neglect. Please be aware of the welfare of those around you.
-
Balloons, rubber bands, tie wraps, plastic bags, bottles, cans....anything you do not deposit in a trash receptacle can harm our wildlife in many ways.

Please help children learn that a visit to the park is NOT "chase the birds time". Help them understand that the park is the bird's home and you are visiting their home, just as they visit your home. They have the right to feel safe in their home, just as we do.
-
Many people enjoy feeding the birds at the park, but PLEASE DO NOT throw food in the water. Thousands of birds have lost their lives when the water is poisoned by particles of uneaten food. If you truly enjoy feeding the birds, take wild bird food along (there is a mixture for ducks as well). You'll get a reaction you never got before! THEY'LL COME RUNNING! THEY LOVE IT!!
-
Ready to wash that car? Please take a few short minutes to make sure you rinse that soap out of your gutter. For many city birds, the gutter is their only source of water. Soap is toxic to birds.
-
Plant native flowers, trees and scrubery. Along with the exotic, imported plants we've all grown to love, please take the time to include native plants in your landscaping. Birds disappear as the plants and trees they need for survival disappear. Combine the two in your yard -- it creates a beautiful scene.
-
Many birds are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Act. If you see something you feel uneasy about, whether it be an uncared for body of water, nesting birds whose habitat is in jeopardy or anything of concern, please contact your local office of the Fish and Wildlife Service. Their special investigators will advise you if they can assist.

We take great pride in supplying our neighborhood birds with healthy, natural food sources and fresh, clean water. Though birds can't smile, there is a distinct sparkle that appears in their eyes when they are happy. There is nothing more gratifying than to see that sparkle instantly appear from something you personally have done. PLEASE HELP them feel they are not a nuisance, but a valuable part of your neighborhood and your life. |
