E g r e t s

In the late 1800's, egrets were almost hunted to extinction for their breeding plumage. Their long flowing plumes were in high demand for wardrobe items (primarily hats) and became of such value, they were more expensive than gold. In the early 1900's, learning of the way the feathers were obtained, women began to boycott products containing egret feathers. Thanks to these women, these beautiful and fascinating birds were saved for all future generations.
